chel’s values
Justice, Justice
we will pursue
Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof
Chel speaks truth to power and does not allow themselves to be censored when holding Jewish communal space. They act from a place of integrity and center their rabbinate on the pursuit of justice—whether that means being loud and proud in solidarity with Palestinian liberation, or speaking up to support transgender and queer-identified Jews in finding their place within Jewish community.
compassion
rachamim
Radical compassion is a core approach to building community and fostering inclusion within the Tzimtzum Community, and wherever Chel is called to serve. They show up with an open heart and a desire to hold space, lead ritual, and teach from a place of deep love and compassion, no matter who stands before them.
humility
Anavah
Learning is always at the center of Chel’s rabbinate. They lean into the evolution of thought and opinion. Their spiritual journey is one of humility—learning from elders, the wisdom of children, and community members. They remain open to evolving and growing over time, while acknowledging that the rabbinate is a position of great honor. They respect the lineages of rabbis past, present, and future.
joy
simcha
Joy is at the center of Chel’s rabbinic approach. Chel moves through the world with an abundance of joy and play, bringing this spirit into their rabbinate. Whether approaching education or ritual, they carry light with them wherever they go. They love to dance on Shabbat and bring that spirit with them in their day to day.
